Football Brothers

I went to take this photo of brothers who start on the same High School football team.
Caption:
Kyle and Cam Bishop both start for Waterville Senior High School's varsity football team. Cam, a reciever, catches passes from his brother Kyle, the team's quarterback.

The rest of the team was behind me harassing the brothers while I was taking the photo.

No Redskins Game

Couldn't find the Redskins game broadcast anywhere. Not even Cancun Mexican Restaurant.

We did change all the channels in their bar from futbol to football.

And relaxed by the lake. My apartment overlooks the beautiful roof lakes of the poorly drained roofs of the businesses next door.

Maine Visiting

I have a few friends named Andrew. The one I've known longest came to visit Maine for a couple days. We drove around Maine's backyards today.

We hiked up Mt. Megunticook in Camden, Maine and saw this dog named Tippy there.

This is the dude and his son, whom Tippy belongs to, and an art teacher named Kaaren from Albany, NY, and my good friend Andrew. I got everyone's e-mail on a slip of paper so I could send this to them, but threw the paper away at a gas station a few hours later.

Stopped by Red's Eats in Wiscasset, Maine. They have the best lobster rolls anyone has ever eaten.

It's best to order a lobster roll (a full lobster of meat on each one), and some french fries.

Stopped by the L.L. Bean world headquarters in Freeport, Maine. (Notice giant boot.)

Drove north up I-95 back to Waterville, Maine.

The Cow In Apple-Time

Here is one of the less-interesting photos I took today of some cows near an apple tree in China, Maine. Less-interesting, that is, until I collaborated with Robert Frost.
Caption:
Cows rest near an apple tree in a China pasture.

"Something inspires the only cow of late
To make no more of a wall than an open gate,
And think no more of wall-builders than fools.
Her face is flecked with pomace and she drools
A cider syrup. Having tasted fruit,
She scorns a pasture withering to the root.
She runs from tree to tree where lie and sweeten.
The windfalls spiked with stubble and worm-eaten.
She leaves them bitten when she has to fly.
She bellows on a knoll against the sky.
Her udder shrivels and the milk goes dry."

Empire Falls

The HBO miniseries "Empire Falls" was actually Skowhegan and Waterville, and some other surrounding communities of Maine. Because Paul Newman died I went to photograph the now famous Empire Grill.
Caption:
Betty Anne Hofmann and Diane Engler, both of Skowhegan, exit the Empire Grill which was made famous by the filming of the HBO miniseries "Empire Falls." Hofmann's son Greg worked in wardrobe for the movie. "In fact, I had Helen Hunt's sneakers for a while. They didn't fit her," said Hofmann. "I wore them out."

Les Petits Chanteurs

I shot a Haitian music program at the University of Maine at Farmington.
Caption:
Conductor Jean Bernard Desinat, of the well-known Haitian choir Les Petits Chanteurs, directs as the choir sings a selection of music based on traditional Haitian songs. The choir played in a program along with The Holy Trinity Music School Chamber Ensemble of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Friday night at the Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Local Coaches

Surprisingly to me, one of my favorite assignments is shooting high school football. Here is a shot for a feature story on local Messalonskee High School's coaching staff.

Messalonskee High School football's head coach Wes Littlefield, and defensive coordinator Pete Bolduc have a word with the team during a recent practice in Oakland.
